What's involved in a Reined Cow Horse competition?
Riders are expected to guide their horse through a
designated reining pattern and demonstrate control
of a cow!
Imagine watching a horse running at full speed, gracefully slide to a stop, roll over his haunches and quietly lope away. Next he spins so fast that you are dizzy. He performs flowing concentric circles at high speeds and with an unapparent cue, he slows down or changes direction.
With a nod of the rider’s head, a cow enters the arena. Now there are both horse and cow racing down a fence, but this time the horse stops and forces the cow to turn. If you do not think the horse is in control yet, watch him guide a cow in a figure eight!
